Hiroshima Peace Memorial, Genbaku Dome

Hiroshima Peace Memorial, Genbaku Dome

The "Hiroshima Peace Memorial, Genbaku Dome" is the remains of the former Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall destroyed by the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima City on August 6, the 20th year of Showa (1945). Located at an extremely close distance of approximately 160 meters from the hypocenter, it was severely damaged and completely burned by heat rays and blast waves, but because the blast wave worked almost vertically from above, the central part of the dome miraculously escaped collapse.
As a historical witness conveying the catastrophic damage of the first atomic bomb in human history, it continues to call for the importance of nuclear weapons abolition and lasting world peace.
Together with the Hiroshima Peace Memorial, Genbaku Dome, we Japanese stand at the forefront of all humanity alongside important people we must never forget. They are the atomic bomb survivors and their families, and the people who continue to support the survivors and work together calling for nuclear weapons abolition and lasting world peace. To Nihon Hidankyo (Japan Confederation of Atomic and Hydrogen Bomb Sufferers Organizations) at the center of this movement, the Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in December 2024. Nihon Hidankyo continues to communicate to the entire world through testimony activities that nuclear weapons must never be used again.

Friedensdenkmal in Hiroshima (Genbaku-Kuppel)
